Presenting bilingual skills for admin roles
How to show German and English ability on administrative applications without overclaiming — and when certificates help.
Office employers care about bilingual ability when the desk actually serves two languages — international visitors, English email threads, or German-first Behörden correspondence with occasional English suppliers.
Be precise about mode
Separate speaking, writing, and reading. “English C1 for email; German everyday office fluency” is more useful than “fluent in everything.” If you draft Anschreiben in German with editing help, do not claim native business writing yet.
Proof that fits admin work
Certificates help when a posting demands them. Otherwise, evidence from prior roles — switching languages at Empfang, translating short notices, minuting mixed meetings — carries weight.
Avoid empty flags
A row of unexplained language flags without context wastes prime CV space. Tie each language to tasks you performed.
Interview reality
Panels may test you live. Practise describing your last office week in both languages for five minutes. Stumbling is fine; freezing is not.
If language framing is blocking interviews, mention it when you request a consultation so we can adjust materials and rehearsal focus.
